AR (Augmented Reality) technology is set to be a game changer in the way customers undertake their shopping. The aim is to enhance customer experience through product testing even before purchase. With augmented reality, it is possible to turn the environment around you into a digital interface. This is done through placing virtual objects in the real world, in real time.

Developers are already testing Apple’s ARKit for iOS. IKEA is expected to launch their own ARKit- powered app. ARKit allows users to create unparalleled augmented reality experiences for iPhone and iPad. It does this by blending objects and information with the environment around you. This enables users to interact with the real world like never seen before. The main features of ARKit are: ability to accurately track the world around the users, highly accurate analysis of scenes by detecting horizontal planes like tables and floor. Furthermore, with fast scene understanding capability, the kit lets you build detailed and compelling virtual content on top of real-world scenes. Simply, with AR shopping app, customers can be able to get an impression of what a product they are buying eg a sofa, or lamp would look like when placed in the home. This allows customers to make more informed buying decisions.

Many other companies are already developing their own AR kits but many ARKit-created apps are not available to most users yet. The developments by Apple’s AR kit show that AR is being deployed beyond gaming to shopping. The IKEA partnership with Apple is expected to be rolled out in autumn 2017. This represents a whole new way in the manner in which customers undertake their shopping.

Shoppi has the ability to integrate Augmented Reality features on their app to give customers a new and never-seen-before shopping experience. Shoppi App can do this through giving customers ability to test the products they are buying and see how they will appear in the intended place. If satisfied, customers can then add the item to their shopping cart on Shoppi App. Furthermore, with AR features, Shoppi has the capability to further offer customers more personalized shopping experience. In addition to interacting with other customers through multimedia content, customers can use AR to share home experiences about various products listed on the site. Since customer data is stored, it is easier for customers to undertake shopping the next time they are on the Shoppi App. AR has the capability to completely change the game in the manner in which retail is conducted.
